Shio Koji Fish Tacos with Mango - Avocado Salsa

Fresh, fast, and full of contrast—these tacos combine crispy pan-fried Shio Koji fish with creamy avocado mayo, bright mango salsa, and warm tortillas. Light, flavorful, and perfect for a quick homemade taco night in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

(Serves 3)
  • Fish
  • 9 oz fish fillets (cod, tilapia, basa, etc.)
  • 1 tbsp. Shio Koji @marukomeus
  • 2 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tbsp. cooking oil
  • 1/2 tbsp. butter
  • Mango Salsa
  • 1/2 ripe mango, diced
  • 1/4 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small tomato, diced
  • 2 tbsp. green pepper, diced
  • 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juic
  • Avocado Mayo Sauce
  • 1/2 avocado, mashed
  • 3 tbsp. mayonnaise
  • 1–2 tbsp. onion, finely chopped
  • 1–2 tbsp. tomato, diced
  • 1 tbsp. chopped pickles
  • To Serve
  • 3 tortillas
  • fresh cilantro
  • extra lemon juice (optional)

Directions

  1. Prep fish (5 min + quick marinate): Cut fish into bite-size pieces. Mix with Shio Koji, cornstarch, and paprika. Let sit while you prep the other ingredients (10–15 min).
  2. Make mango salsa (5 min): Combine mango, onion, tomato, green pepper, lemon juice, and salt. Mix gently and set aside.
  3. Make avocado mayo (5 min): Mash avocado, then mix with mayonnaise, onion, tomato, and chopped pickles until creamy.
  4. Cook fish (6–8 min): Heat oil and butter in a pan over medium heat. Pan-fry fish for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and fully cooked.
  5. Warm tortillas (1–2 min): Use the same pan and leftover oil to heat tortillas on both sides until soft and lightly toasted.
  6. Assemble tacos (2–3 min): Spread avocado mayo on tortillas, add fish, then top with mango salsa.
  7. Finish & serve: Sprinkle with fresh cilantro and add extra lemon juice if desired. Serve immediately.
